Sikhya Foundation is an NGO helping poor students who want a bright future and wish to develop their skills. We work across education, health and women empowerment — guided by a simple conviction: education empowers a person to earn a livelihood, and it also builds awareness of health, rights and responsible citizenship. It is the one tool that frees families from the cycle of ignorance, poverty and disease.
We also learned early that a child's education cannot be separated from the family. Unless the mother is healthy and empowered, and an elder sibling is skilled enough to earn, the journey of change stalls. That is why our work extends to family health, livelihood and women empowerment — the child stays at the centre, and the whole family becomes the target of care.
To empower youth at the grassroots level through education and skill development — so the underprivileged can chase the same high goals as anyone else. We have taken an oath to train talented children held back only by lack of money, sources or guidance. With proper training and support, the next Sachin, Milkha Singh or Sania Mirza could come from any lane of any mohalla.
To work as a catalyst for sustainable change in the lives of underprivileged children, youth and women with a life-cycle approach to development; to engage civil society proactively through civic-driven change; and to hold ourselves to the highest standards of governance as a knowledge-driven, scalable development organisation.
Sustainable change cannot happen unless members of civil society are involved in the process of development. Believing in this principle of "Civic Driven Change", Sikhya Foundation sensitises and involves the community — making neighbours, families and local institutions partners in the mission, not spectators of it.
Child education is the centre; family well-being is the circle around it. We support the child's schooling, the family's health, the mother's empowerment and an elder sibling's employability — because when one earning, educated member emerges, empowerment continues beyond the present generation.
